Break These Cleaning Habits

When it comes to cleaning, there are some habits that make the job more difficult than it needs to be. Empty sink? Put that one dirty cup into the dishwasher. Dusting after you鈥檙e done cleaning? A lot of that dust will end up on the floor. Here are a couple of tips to keep in mind that will make your cleaning habits easier.

1. Give Cleaning Products Time

Many cleaning products require a certain amount of time to work effectively. For example, most soap scum cleaning products need to rest after application. So instead of applying a cleaning solution and scrubbing immediately, take a moment to read the directions and you might be able to just rinse away the dirt and grime.

2. Using Too Much Cleaning Product

Most cleaning products specify how much should be used, and typically that amount is more than enough to get the job done. Using more than the specified amount will not clean things faster and will only lead to needing to replace the solution sooner. In some cases, over use of a cleaning product can be damaging, such as using more laundry detergent than needed. Too much laundry detergent will actually trap grime in your clothes and damage the fibers in the long run.

3. Clean Top Down

Always approach cleaning your home from the top down. For example, clean elevated places before tackling the floors. When dusting shelves, book cases, walls, and ceilings, a lot of the debris will fall to the floor. Instead of vacuuming twice, wait to vacuum when everything above the floor is clean.

4. Don鈥檛 Let Small Items Become Large Messes

It鈥檚 easy to deal with a dirty cup or small laundry pile later, until it鈥檚 time to deal with it. Handling small chores as they come will save time in the long run. Simply placing a dirty cup in the dishwasher, throwing out old food in your fridge, or dealing with laundry before it becomes an enormous pile makes cleaning around your home more manageable.
